Kingston upon Thames Archaeological Society has been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to investigate a site on the Hogsmill River during the first week in August. The focus will be on palaeoecology through auguring and testpits, but other information may come to light too, like who grazed their animals in these lush water meadows, and whether there is any sign of the many mills that dotted the Hogsmill from medieval times onwards.

The project has a website up and running at http://www.kingstonarchaeology.org/ where you can find out more. We hope the fieldwork will culminate in both popular and academic publications, and an exhibition at Kingston Museum next summer.

There will be an Open Day on the site on Saturday August 6th, 10am-4pm, to which all are welcome.
Location: The Southwood Activity Centre (used by Kingston Scouts), Elm Close (off Southwood Drive) Tolworth, KT5.
The site is immediately adjacent to the A3 Kingston Bypass.
