Lithics Working Group

This group was set up by the Prehistoric Group to look at old lithic collections held in museums in Surrey. It has started with the collections in Guildford Museum and the work on these artefacts is ongoing. Meetings are held in Reigate on alternate Monday evenings and although space is limited we welcome enquiries from anyone interested in joining us whenever an opportunity arises.

Chilworth historic landscape survey (1 - 30 April)

Events:
An historic landscape survey is currently being undertaken (March 2008) around the gunpowder mills at Chilworth. This is part of the Areas of Special Historic Landscape project jointly funded by Surrey Archaeological Society and Surrey County Council. A team of volunteers will be led by Philip Masters, a professional landscape archaeologist and will look at the water management systems associated with the gunpowder mills as well as at other historic features in the vicinity.

South East Research Framework

The archaeology, buildings and historic landscape of South East England (East Sussex, Kent, Surrey and West Sussex) comprise an outstanding inheritance that helps to give the region its distinctive character and sense of identity.

This historic environment is also a rich resource for education, research and leisure, but what do we actually know about the region's past, and what are the questions we want and need to answer?

The South East Research Framework for the historic environment is an opportunity for all those who care about the region's heritage to take stock and plan how limited resources should be used.
