From Manor to Palace - Excavating the moated site at Woking

Excavations have been taking place at Woking Palace annually since 2009.

This talk by Rob Poulton will focus on the exciting new information to emerge in 2014 including the discovery of the palace well, a new medieval building and an industrial area.

A collection of short films documenting and inspired by stories of people and disability in Surrey from over 100 years ago.

At this special launch event, staged in conjunction with the Surrey History Centre, the films will be introduced by the filmmakers themselves, members of The Freewheelers’ Media Group. The screening will be followed by questions and answers. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Story of the People’s Cathedral
Between 1952 and 1961 200,000 brick-givers made the construction of Guildford Cathedral possible. Can you help us bring these stories to life?

Guildford Cathedral has successfully secured initial supportfrom the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for repairs to the Cathedral fabric and development of its project: Securing Guildford Cathedral’s future: treasures, memories and stories revealed.

We are now looking for people to take part in an oral history project to capture the memories of the brick-givers and others involved in the Cathedral story.

There are two ways you can get involved in the project:

As part of the spring/summer 2014 programme of talks organised by the Friend of Woking Palace for their HLF funded project "Woking Palace and its Park" Rob Poulton, the director of the excavations, will be giving a talk about excavating the moated site at Woking.
